Neighborhood Spotlight: Sunnyside

Sunnyside, the little ray of light in Northwest Denver, has historic roots, an eclectic vibe, a convenient location, and is smack dab in the middle of a booming restaurant scene.

Sunnyside has enjoyed a revival recently, thanks to an influx of development, restaurants, breweries, and new residents who are migrating north from the overly saturated, and overpriced, Highland neighborhood. What makes Sunnyside cool is that it feels like a real neighborhood — think quiet, tree-lined streets — but has the amenities of a destination neighborhood.  What more could you ask for?

Boundaries:

North: I-70
East: Union Pacific Railroad line (Inca Street)
South: 38th Ave.
West: Federal Blvd.

Neighborhood Anchor:

Sunnyside’s neighborhood anchors are restaurants on Tejon, the corner of 44th and Alcott, and stretches of 38th Ave. and Federal Blvd. These locations house the shops, galleries, salons, breweries, restaurants, and other amenities the Sunnyside residents (and visitors) love so much.  Chaffee Park, located at 44th and Tejon, is the perfect spot for lounging in the sun or enjoying the playground when the Sunnyside Music Fest isn’t happening.

Recreation:

Columbus Park on 38th Ave., Chaffee Park (mentioned above), Bacon Social House, Bonaquisti Wine Company, Huckleberry Roasters, Camargo Tamales, The Universal, Illegal Pete’s, Ace Hardware, Diebolt Brewing, Sub Rosa Mercantile, Cheese + Provisions, Honeycomb...the list of places to shop, eat and drink goes on and on.  The annual Sunnyside Music Festival is something we look forward to every summer.

Commuting:

Sunnyside is just south of I-70 so getting east or west is a piece of cake, as is going north and south due to the proximity to I-25.  The Park and Ride at 41st & Fox is a future commuter rail station that will serve the Regional Transportation District's B Line and G Line. It is the first station northbound on the route from Denver Union Station.

Architectural Influence:

Very diverse architectural styles ranging from Victorian homes, stately Denver squares alongside charming bungalows, newly remodeled duplexes and modern homes that locals have grown accustomed to seeing pop up throughout North Denver are represented in Sunnyside.

Why We Like Sunnyside:

Sunnyside is home to a diverse selection of folks, professionals, and artists who enjoy the eclectic nature of the neighborhood.  With its quiet tree-lined streets, welcoming front porches, proximity to highways, downtown, and other popular areas, as well as a light rail station, it’s safe to say that Sunnyside has claimed bragging rights as one of Denver’s hottest neighborhoods.
