14 Ways to Get Your Whiskey On in Denver

Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey in the Baker District

You’ve seen ‘em: People who just look like they drink whiskey. Maybe they’re in their 60s, enjoying a newspaper by the fireplace. Or a burly, bearded lumberjack type. (You know… ala Nick Offerman.) Or a well-dressed young professional indulging in a glass and a cigar.

But if you find the right whiskey, almost anyone can fall in love with the stuff.

Enter Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey.

Founded in 2006, Stranahan’s has become one of the top-selling single malt distillers in the U.S. And for good reason. They use the best ingredients to produce a smooth, delicious, unique drink sure to turn any whiskey hater into a brand loyalist. You can even visit their distillery, highly rated for their informative (and boozy) tours, friendly staff, and incredible cocktails.

For those of you who are whiskey noobs, here’s a quick lesson: Whiskey comes in three main varieties: blended, double malt, and single malt. Blended whiskeys are made by combining several expressions from more than two distilleries. Double malts are from two distilleries. Single malts (you see where this is going, yeah?) are made by a single distillery, start to finish. That’s what makes them so special—there’s one distillery in control the whole time

And Stranahan’s single malt goes above and beyond. They use small-batch distilling with Rocky Mountain snow melt (COME ON!) for the purest notes of oak, fruit, nuts, vanilla, and caramel.
