11 Great Things to Do in Colorado

As warmer weather approaches, it’s time to appreciate all our great state of Colorado has to offer! From the Rocky Mountains to the Mile High City, there’s no shortage of things to do.

Here are some of our faves…

#1 Go for a scenic drive.

Colorado has some breathtaking views, especially along the more than 26 scenic and historic byways across the state! From mountain views to gushing waterfalls, check out these incredible, once-in-a-lifetime drives.

#2 Take a hike!

Colorado has more than 17,000 marked trails, offering sweet strolls through wildflower fields or challenging climbs up one of the state’s 58 mountains! We love this list from Day Hikes Near Denver. Long, short, easy, difficult… doesn’t matter. Any of these hikes are sure to satisfy!

#3 Bike around.

There are sooooo many biking paths in the great CO! From mountain and dirt bike paths (like Crested Butte’s 401 Trail) to city trails suited for all riders (like Little Dry Creek Trail) you’re bound to have a blast.

#4 Visit all the national parks.

Colorado boasts four incredible national parks within its borders:

#5 Connect with nature…

…on a more structured path. The Denver Botanic Gardens have an incredible display—more than 24 acres!—of gardens highlighting native western flora and adapted plants. They also have a children’s garden, encouraging your little ones to explore soil and water in new (and very hands-on) ways!

Or, take a trip on the wild side and visit Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. This conservation-focused zoological center gives every visitor the experience of a lifetime. Located on the slopes of a mountain (as the name suggests), you’ll get fabulous views while browsing the nearly 750 animals in this world-class facility.

#6 Visit a museum.

From modern art to children’s museums to visiting the Black American West, you’ll find a rich collection of storytellers—from history and beyond—throughout Colorado. We also love the Molly Brown House Museum, telling the story of a Titanic survivor and her heroic life.

#7 Practice your putting skills.

There’s no shortage of putting potential in Colorado. Throughout the state, there are some award-winning courses that are sure to satisfy any golf enthusiast. Colorado Springs has some particularly attractive acreage, including Garden of the Gods Resort and Club!

#8 Try adventure sports.

For the bravest among us, Colorado offers some extreme sporting opportunities. With millions of rugged acres to explore, warmer weather draws people to the mountains with ATVs, parachutes, and paragliders. Check out this list to find an adventure guide to give you the time of your life!

#9 Visit an amusement park.

Colorado is no stranger to amusement and theme parks. With more than 10 parks scattered across the state—though mostly in the Denver metro area—there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Ride the Tower of Doom at Denver’s Elitch Gardens or visit Steamboat Springs for the ultimate day out at Amaze’n Steamboat Family Fun Park!

#10 Get your drink on!

With more than 12 breweries throughout the state, there are plenty of ways to wet your whistle. Try a big brewery tour from Budweiser or Coors. Or, if you’re more into microbrews, check out Boulder’s Walking Tour, offering a 3-hour guided experience of Pearl Street’s best breweries!

There are also plenty of distilleries to choose from. We personally recommend Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey for a great tour (and plenty of drinks!).

#11 Catch a concert.

There are dozens of music venues throughout our great state. Whether you’re looking for big-name headliners at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater or more cozy, exclusive listening sessions at Lulu’s Downstairs, you’re going to love CO’s music scene.
