A Brief History of Virginia Village
Virginia Village’s history starts in 1864 when Levi Booth bought the land that is now the neighborhood.
At that time, the area was primarily agricultural, used to grow grain, horseradish, and asparagus. Then, shortly after the Korean War, local families voted to annex most of the area into Denver.
Virginia Village began small, but it’s now blossomed into southeast Denver’s most populous neighborhood. In recent decades the primarily residential neighborhood has seen a boom in commercial developments, adding even more charm and draw to the area.
Most of Virginia Village’s homes, characterized by low mid-century constructions along curvy thoroughfares, were built by 1973. Many still boast glass walls, post-and-beam construction, open floor plans, and low-sloping A-frame roofs.

Virginia Village has two green spaces. While Ash Grove Park is just 7.3 acres, it’s the perfect tiny oasis from the urban landscape. Or go hang out at Judge Joseph E. Cook Park! Here you can enjoy a community pool, basketball court, soccer field, and recreation center.
