Life in Denver: Harvey Park Neighborhood

Harvey Park is your own “slice of the suburbs” with an urban twist. This densely packed area has everything you could want: beautiful homes, gorgeous parks, and delicious restaurants!

Harvey Park’s Boundaries: West Jewell Ave (North), South Federal Blvd (East),
West Hampden Ave (South), (mostly) South Sheridan (West)

A Short History of Harvey Park

Prior to the 1950s, the area that became Harvey Park was mostly rural. But once development began, it happened fast

In just three years, the area gained 4,000 homes. Because of the fast growth, early Harvey Park residents—many of whom were blue-collar workers—initially made do without amenities like streetlights and schools.

Of historical significance is Harvey Park’s unique architecture: Cliff May California Contemporary homes. These beautiful brick ranches with large front windows help residents embrace the outdoors even while inside.

This area is experiencing renewed interest in recent years. And why not? With relatively affordable and wildly en vogue mid-century mods, you can’t help but love the place. Plus, it’s just 15 minutes southwest of downtown, so you get the peace and quiet of the suburbs with all the urban amenities close by.

These iconic thoroughfares connect Harvey Park to the South Platte Trail into Downtown Denver. The Sanderson Gulch follows a small stream for almost five miles, providing a natural oasis in the middle of the busy city.

Bear Creek Trail sits in a tree-lined corridor along Bear Creek, which runs from downtown Denver to the foothills of the Rockies. Both provide splendid nature-focused getaways in the heart of the Harvey Park neighborhood.

#7 The Harvey Park Community Organization

The Harvey Park Community Organization (HPCO) isn’t your regular-shmegular neighborhood org. They aim to “create opportunities to empower community through education programs, social events, and philanthropic activities.” Most notably, though, they offer merit scholarships to resident high school seniors who plan to further their education!

They also sponsor Harvey Park Improvement Association meetings. These once-a-month get-togethers aim to support development and economic growth in the neighborhood.
