Five Points—encompassing smaller neighborhoods like Ballpark, RiNo, and Curtis Park—is one of Denver’s oldest and most diverse neighborhoods.
Sitting just northeast of downtown’s central business district, the neighborhood is perfect for those looking for a vibrant atmosphere and spending time outdoors. There’s plenty to do, from innovative coffeehouses and craft breweries, to museums that bring the past to life.

A Quick History of Five Points in Denver
Five Points—named for the vertices formed by 26th Avenue, 27th Street, Washington Street, and Welton Street—was established in the 1860s.
At first, the neighborhood was home to European immigrants. Soon, though, white families began moving away from the city center. And as the Great Migration brought Black families closer to town, white folks implemented discriminatory housing practices designed to maintain segregation.
Despite ongoing racism, the residents flourished. Known as the “Harlem of the West,” Five Points boomed with a rich mix of business and commerce. Its major claim to fame was the numerous jazz clubs that featured stars like Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Nat King Cole.

#1 Juneteenth Celebrations
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the end of slavery in the U.S. Every year, Five Points hosts a Juneteenth Music Festival. Featuring vendor booths, food, a parade, pageant, car show, and plenty of music, this is a community staple you don’t want to miss!
#2 The Five Points Jazz Festival
Every May, the neighborhood celebrates its jazz heritage with the Five Points Jazz Festival. With more than 100 performers, amazing food, and tons of family-friendly activities, this is another must- experience neighborhood event.

Speaking of music, there are tons of venues that play all year round! Take a trip to Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom to hear the legacy of James Brown and BB King continue in the present day. In addition to classic jazz sounds, Cervantes’ hosts an eclectic lineup of other artists. Or, head to the Larimer Lounge for more diverse and up-and-coming artists.
#4 Black American West Museum
The Black American West Museum brings the history and culture of those who helped settle and develop the American West into the modern era. It’s located in the former home of Dr. Justina Ford, the first Black woman doctor in Denver. Most notably, they showcase several exhibits on Black cowboys. Super cool!
#5 Cleo Parker Robinson Dance
The Cleo Parker Robinson Dance (CPRD) is a cross-cultural, contemporary dance institution that provides instruction, performances, and community programs. While it brings together performers, artists, and audiences of all backgrounds, the CPRD is rooted in African American traditions. Enjoy their performances all year round in the historic AME Shorter Church!
#6 Coors Field
Visit the home of the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field! With their newly renovated rooftop, you can sit in the upper right-field and relax with a cold one from one of their premium bars.
#7 The street art!
Five Points is at the heart of Denver’s street art scene. Thanks to the RiNo Mural Program, new works pop up along the thoroughfares and sidewalks on a monthly basis. Take a stroll and take in the culture!
