Neighborhood Spotlight: Sloan's Lake

Slo Hi Coffee Co in the Sloan’s Lake neighborhood of Denver

Sloan’s Lake is a beloved NW Denver neighborhood.

Also called “Sloan” and “Sloans” Lake (with heated opinions about each version), this is a favorite destination neighborhood because...well...it’s a gorgeous lake surrounded by lovely homes and proximity to shops, restaurants, and all kinds of amenities.

Boundaries:

North: W. 26th Ave.
East: Federal Blvd.
South: W. 17th/18th Aves.
West: Sheridan Blvd.

Neighborhood Anchor:

The neighborhood anchor is, as you’d expect, the lake. Depending on where you stand/walk/bike/run nearby, it reflects our stunning skylines from every angle in every season.

Recreation:

There are lots of recreation opportunities at the lake, including a walking/running path, boating, and playground for kids. Nearby, you can catch a movie at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, get great coffee (and service your bike) at SloHi Coffee and Bike, eat/drink in the Historic 25th Ave at Tap and Burger and Joyride Brewing Company, and don’t forget to try Hogshead Brewery, as well as Rise & Shine Biscuit Kitchen and Cafe. If shopping is your pastime check out Planted for flora in reclaimed wood-craft containers, and be sure to see 23rd Ave Sculpture Studio for stunning sculptural metal work.

Commuting:

While most Denverites drive to get around, this area is highly walkable, bikeable, inline skate-able. Great neighborhood streets and the Sloan’s Lake recreation area make it a destination for leaving your motorized movement behind.

Architectural Influence:

The neighbprhood consists of modest brick ranches, with a decent sprinkling of Victorians, mid-century moderns, modern/contemporary new construction, and just barely enough Denver Squares to remind us that we’re still in Denver.

Why We Like Sloan’s Lake:

It’s one of the very few areas within Denver where we can be (and feel) close to a true body of water. It’s a treat to know that we’ve got one public place central to our city core that we can bring ourselves near the healing, peaceful, exciting, refreshing, renewing power of water.
